Leonardo Hotels bolsters its presence in Germany

Group pursues further development of its portfolio by launching new locations in Regensburg and Kiel and a modernised hotel in Magdeburg

Berlin, 21 October 2026. Leonardo Hotels Central Europe is continuing to expand its presence in Germany. Two new locations are being added following the acquisition of the former Holiday Inn Express Regensburg on 15 October and of the Steigenberger Conti Hansa in Kiel on 21 October. The former IntercityHotel in Magdeburg has also undergone a comprehensive programme of modernisation works prior to being rebranded. It is now operating under the name of Leonardo Magdeburg City Center. These three locations represent a further development of the company’s portfolio, a process which encompasses tapping into new markets as well as the updating and integration of existing hotels.

“We are pursuing growth in Germany at several levels,” said Yoram Biton, Managing Director Leonardo Hotels Central Europe. “Our acquisitions in Regensburg and Kiel have enabled us to strengthen our presence at other locations. At the same time, we are taking a targeted approach towards developing existing hotels and are thus laying the foundations for their long-term success. The modernisation works in Magdeburg are a good example of this. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners for their collaboration and for the trust they have shown.”

Two new hotels, two new locations

The Leonardo Smart Regensburg, a hotel with 144 rooms in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Regensburg, is a further acquisition by Leonardo Hotels. Its proximity to Regensburg’s historic old quarter makes it ideally suited to a city trip. Both the main railway station and key sights such as Regensburg Cathedral are easily accessible. Services on offer include a breakfast buffet, a bar which is open 24 hours a day and free Wi-Fi. Smaller meetings can be staged in two combinable meeting rooms with a total capacity of 16 persons.

The Leonardo Royal Conti Hansa Kiel is Leonardo Hotels’ first venture in the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein. Formerly known as the Steigenberger Conti Hansa, it is centrally located opposite the two cruise terminals of the Baltic Quay and combines a maritime environment with Nordic-inspired design. Its 164 rooms also include family rooms and junior suites. One of the hotel’s real stand-outs is a revamped grand suite extending over an area of 75 square metres and featuring a separate bedroom and a private living and dining area.

Guests can dine in a restaurant which serves both regional and international cuisine. A bar complete with a lounge and pool table provides an inviting space to unwind at the end of the day. These amenities are complemented by a gym and sauna area and an outdoor terrace. Eleven rooms, each with a terrace or balcony, are available for meetings and events. Together they are able to accommodate up to 270 people. The hotel is equally attractive to business visitors, city travellers and cruise passengers alike thanks to its convenient position between the main railway station, the city centre and the Baltic Quay.

Modernisation and rebranding in Magdeburg

Meanwhile in Magdeburg, the comprehensive modernisation works at the IntercityHotel acquired last year are now nearing completion. The hotel has been operating under the name of the Leonardo Magdeburg City Center since 19 October. All rooms and public areas, including the restaurant, bar and lobby, have undergone a full renovation as part of the programme.

The design concept combines modern furnishings with homely details and warm colours. The rooms are decorated in shades of light beige, cream and grey. This colour scheme is enhanced by selected wall motifs and subtle finishing touches in blue. The public areas exude a modern design language which has been mixed with warm yellow tones, earthy hues and strategically placed darker contrasts. Plants and large windows give additional freshness and plenty of natural light. The open plan layout is structured by different seating areas in which comfortable armchairs and long benches in warm terracotta are both in evidence. The restaurant, bar and lobby blend seamlessly to create space for meetings as well as for relaxing breaks. The hotel also boasts five meeting rooms extending over a total area of 234 square metres. The largest of these is 90 square metres in size and can accommodate up to 70 participants.

The Leonardo Magdeburg City Center is located right next to Magdeburg’s main railway station. Attractions such as Magdeburg Cathedral, the Green Citadel and the Elbe Promenade are all around one kilometre away. This makes the hotel an excellent option for business travellers, conference guests and leisure visitors.
